BRAKES is a rock‘n’roll romantic comedy. The perfect anti-date movie for an alternative Valentine’s Day watch. Written and directed by actor/director Mercedes Grower, the film will be released on DVD on 12 February.

BRAKES boasts stellar performances from some of Britain’s top comedy and dramatic acting talent reuniting Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh) alongside Paul McGann (Withnail & I), Julia Davis (Nighty Night), Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave), Steve Oram (Sightseers), Kelly Campbell (Love and Friendship), Roland Gift (The Fine Young Cannibals), Peter Wight (Babel, Atonement), Kate Hardie (Mona Lisa), Seb Cardinal (Cardinal Burns).

BRAKES received a Special Jury Mention for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival 2016 and has won audiences over at many festivals since, including LOCO London Comedy Film Festival and the inaugural ‘Cineramageddon’ event, curated by Julien Temple, at last year’s Glastonbury Festival.

BRAKES is a raw, dark and unconventional comedy. Split into two halves it follows the tumultuous stories of nine couples, plunging straight into the brutal and absurd endings of their relationships first, before travelling back to the moments when the spark of love between them first emerged. Using London as their match-maker, each of their stories is unique yet familiar to us all.

BRAKES is the debut feature from writer/director Mercedes Grower, who has over ten years experience in the television and film industries.  The film’s soundtrack opens with the track Lonely Life by Mercedes Grower and Julia Davis’ band Sybil and features music from artists including Quickspace, Adrian Crawley, Maija Sofia, Alias and The Human League.
