Steve Coogan’s passion project reunites him with longtime collaborator Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People, A Cock and Bull Story and The Trip) for the real life story of the ‘King of Soho’, the legendary gentleman’s club owner and porn publisher Paul Raymond.
Charting his life from the late 1950’s, the film follows Paul Raymond as he progresses up the financial and social ladder, accumulating wealth and notoriety. In 1958 he opens London’s first strip club, soon after taking over all of Soho publishing erotic magazines and producing nude theatre earning him the title of Britain’s richest man in 1992! The film focuses on his tumultuous relationships with the three most important women in his life: his wife Jean (Anna Friel: Limitless) a nude dancer, choreographer and mother of his children, his girlfriend Fiona (Tamsin Egerton: St Trinians), a glamour model who becomes the famous pin-up star of his magazines and shows, and his beloved daughter Debbie (Imogen Poots: 28 Weeks Later).
Written by Matt Greenhalgh (Nowhere Boy, Control), THE LOOK OF LOVE is a glamorous sexy funny film in which Steve Coogan steps out of his usual role as the iconic Alan Partridge to deliver a remarkable complex performance of one of Britain’s most notorious celebrities. Also featuring a host of Britain’s favourite comedy performers in various guises: Stephen Fry as a judge, David Walliams as a vicar and Chris Addison as an afro-sporting glamour photographer.
