Samuel LoveReligion-based horror has been around a long time, with films like The Wicker Man and The Exorcist often ranked among the best films in the genre. A new film, Diabolic, blends supernatural horror with themes of religious trauma and possession, to harrowing effect. Director David Yohe crafts a film filled with striking imagery and an unsettling tone and atmosphere, while Elizabeth Cullen delivers a committed central performance that anchors the story. Although the film’s narrative and thematic ambitions occasionally struggle to come together in a fully satisfying way, Diabolic’s polished production values, eerie visuals and incredible lead performance make it a noteworthy addition to the modern indie horror landscape and another gem in Lightbulb Film Distribution’s crown.
Synopsis
A woman’s hope for a miracle cure turns into a nightmare when she confronts the vengeful spirit of a cursed witch, determined to claim her as a vessel for her evil power.
