Film Review

Originally intended as a satire on consumerist society, John Carpenter’s They Live has never seemed more relevant. Simply substitute the film’s ghoulish alien yuppies for controlling media barons and a corporate elite and you’re good-to-go.

WWF wrestler Rowdy Piper plays John Nada who discovers a conspiracy embedded in the American establishment.

Like most of Carpenter’s characters John is an a-typical hero—a homeless construction worker, who finds himself pitted against an enemy who is literally out of this world.

Famed for its striking visuals, endlessly quotable lines, and possibly the longest fist fight in cinema history, They Live is both ridiculous and inspiring in equal measure.

STUDIOCANAL’s new 4K release comes alongside The Fog, Prince Of Darkness, and Escape From New York. Limited cinema re-releases are planned for all four films, around for Halloween, with DVD and Blu-rays available to buy from October 29th. Look out for brand-new artwork by Matt Ferguson and a special 4-disc Collector’s Edition which will include a copy of the film’s seminal soundtrack performed by Carpenter himself.

This is a cult film for all the best reasons: it’s fun, thought-provoking, and timeless.
