Fun and anarchic, with stereotype-busting characters, mind-boggling plots, and muppets (yes you read that right), Farscape was that rare thing. A genuinely unique and surprising science fiction series.
It’s also a love story, albeit one in which the romantically entangled John Crichton (Ben Bova) and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) spend just as much time trying to kill each other as they do trying to bed each other.
The series ran for four seasons and had just reached that sublime point where everything was rolling along like a well-oiled machine. The dialogue was buzzing, the storylines were a rollercoaster of emotions, and the actors were clearly having an absolute ball. Which was, of course, the cue for the Sci-Fi Channel to cancel it.
It took a while—and an awful lot of angry emails—but two years later, series creator, Rockne S. O’Bannon, and executive producer, Brian Henson, finally put the band back together to give fans the ending they wanted.
The Peacekeeper Wars was the result. Running to 182 minutes, the mini series was by no means perfect, but let’s face it, 182 minutes of More Farscape is always a good thing.
Fabulous Films’ latest release arrives on bu-ray this March. So settle down for a viewing experience that guaranteed to make transit madness look like a mild bout of the fahrbots.
