Cult horror, literary adaptations and supernatural shocks join Indicator’s series in February with another fantastic set of hidden gems.
THE DEVIL’S MEN (1976)
This offbeat horror film, starring genre icons Peter Cushing (The Revenge of Frankenstein, Star Wars), Donald Pleasence (You Only Live Twice, Halloween), and Luan Peters (Twins of Evil, Doctor Who), and featuring a score by the legendary Brian Eno, tells of a Satanic cult, led by Cushing, that is abducting tourists for ritual sacrifice – and only Pleasence’s priest can save them. An eccentric, bloody cult shocker, The Devil’s Men (also known as Land of the Minotaur) makes its world Blu-ray debut, presenting both the original and US cuts of the film in a new 2K restoration from the original negative, and accompanied by new and archival extras, including a feature-length Super 8 version of the film.
THE DEVIL’S MEN is available on Blu-ray from 21 February 2022
BARTLEBY (1970)
Based on Herman Melville’s celebrated short story ‘Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street’, Anthony Friedmann’s unduly neglected film relocates the action to 1970s London and stars Oscar-winner Paul Scofield (A Man for All Seasons), John McEnery (Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet), and Thorley Walters (Hammer’s The Phantom of the Opera). When a young office clerk, Bartleby (McEnery), becomes increasingly defeated by the pressures of modern life, he gradually opts out of all forms of social engagement and his frustrated employer (Scofield) does all he can to stop him from withdrawing entirely into his own world. Superbly acted and exquisitely photographed, Bartleby is a rare gem of 1970s British cinema. Presented in a brand new restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative, this wry and complex drama makes its worldwide debut on Blu-ray accompanied by a range of new and archival extra features.

AN UNSUITABLE JOB FOR A WOMAN (1982)
Adapted from P D James’ classic crime novel, this stylish, little-seen thriller stars Billie Whitelaw (The Omen, The Krays), Pippa Guard (The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady), Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark), and Dominic Guard (Absolution). After finding her boss dead in his office, Cordelia Gray (Pippa Guard) takes over duties at his private detective agency. When a woman asks her to investigate the apparent suicide of a young man, she takes on her first case and gets entangled in a web of dark family secrets. Presented in a brand new restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative, this powerful, unconventional thriller from filmmaker and novelist Christopher Petit – director of the cult classic Radio On – makes its worldwide debut on Blu-ray accompanied by new interviews with cast and crew.

VOICES (1973)
Real-life husband and wife David Hemmings (Blowup, Deep Red) and Gayle Hunnicutt (Eye of the Cat, Fragment of Fear) star in this tense British shocker from director Kevin Billington (The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer). After a tragic family accident, Claire (Hunnicutt) suffers a mental breakdown. In an effort to help her recovery, Robert (Hemmings), her husband, takes her to convalesce in a grand country house, but her already fragile sanity is soon threatened by ghostly apparitions and terrifying visions. Shot on a mixture of film and video, this superb chiller is presented in a brand new restoration from a 4K scan of the original separation masters by Powerhouse Films. Making its worldwide debut on Blu-ray, Voices is accompanied with a selection of newly produced extras and a comprehensive booklet.
