These days, often the only thing that keeps us going through the endless onslaught of Zoom calls and the general feeling of hopelessness is the promise of a good film at the end of the day. The escapism offered by the magic of the movies is such an invaluable antidote to lockdown blues, and while we still can’t go to the cinema…the cinema can come to us.

The hardest part can be choosing what to watch. Paramount Home Entertainment have something for everyone in their catalogue, so here are three movie marathons ideas for you to consider.

The Best of Eddie Murphy in 4K

Coming to America & Beverly Hills Cop

For those among you looking for some much-needed laughs in these dark times, look no further than a double bill of comedic genius from legendary funny-man Eddie Murphy. Although his more recent output might leave rather a lot to be desired, his work in the 1980s is the stuff of legend – and he was never better than he was in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop and 1988’s Coming to America. The former film shot Murphy to international stardom, launching one of the most influential careers in comedy, while the latter is certainly his funniest and most beloved film, that just this year has finally seen the long-awaited sequel released.

These two films make for a hilarious evening’s entertainment, and look absolutely magnificent on the 4K UHD format. They look and sound fresher than ever, which compliments the timeless jokes within them.

Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop are available now on 4K UHD.

Heartwarming Classics from John Hughes

Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Some Kind of Wonderful & She’s Having a Baby

“All five of the films in this set showcase Hughes at his best, delivering films full of heart and laughter. The first three films in the set need no introduction, but the final two – both making their Blu-ray debut in this set – are just as worthy of note. The underrated hidden gems might not have the legacy of the earlier films in the set, but are equally charming tales of self-discovery and love that are just as heart-warming as Hughes’ more iconic output, and downright wonderful little 80s films in their own right.” Read more…

The John Hughes 5-Movie Collection is available now on Blu-ray.

Action-packed Entertainment with Tom Cruise in 4K

Top Gun, War of the Worlds, Days of Thunder

With Tom Cruise’s return to the Danger Zone in Top Gun: Maverick just around the corner, there’s no time like now for a marathon of some of the action star’s best films in 4K UHD. Whether you’re into sci-fi blockbusters, fast-paced motor-racing drama or fighter pilots playing beach volleyball, you’ll find something to enjoy in these three films. In Tony Scott’s legendary Top Gun and Days of Thunder and Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, Cruise’s leading man charisma is on full display with some of his finest and most entertaining films that look and sound absolutely astounding on the 4K format.

These are the films that 4K is made for, and a marathon of all three is as much a feast for the eyes and ears as they are just a downright joy to watch. The escapism granted by these blockbusters is a solid reminder of the power of film in these dark times, and if seeing Maverick take to the skies in 4K doesn’t float your boat, then you are beyond help.

Top Gun, War of the Worlds & Days of Thunder are available now on 4K UHD.
