Second Sight’s Hammer Double Feature
It’s a great time to be a Peter Cushing fan. After StudioCanal’s glorious 4K rereleases of the 60s Dr. Who films, Second Sight Films have given two of his finest Hammer Film Productions outings their usual lavish treatment. These two cult classics – Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974) and The Mummy (1959) – offer a fantastic showcase for the celebrated thespian’s horror output while also being a loving tribute to Hammer. Boasting the usual wealth of new and archival special features, stunning packaging, and definitive transfers of the films themselves, these two releases are absolutely essential purchases for horror buffs.
Do Second Sight ever miss? It’s getting quite absurd how reliable they are in their releases. Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and The Mummy offer up yet another reminder that they truly are the leaders of physical media, and their reputation upon that throne remains utterly unshakeable.
FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL
Synopsis
The finale to Hammer’s Frankenstein cycle features a young Doctor who is interned in the asylum where Baron Frankenstein supposedly perished after being found experimenting on stolen corpses. In the asylum he meets the mysterious Doctor Victor and gradually comes to realise that Frankenstein is alive and well and continuing his work.

THE MUMMY
Synopsis
In 1895 a team of British archaeologists discover the untouched tomb of Princess Ananka but accidentally bring the mummified body of her high priest back to life. Three years later back in England a follower of the same Egyptian religion unleashes ‘The Mummy’ to exact grisly revenge on the despoilers of the sacred past.
