Spring Events Highlights

Spring is in grabbing distance and with it an array of cinematic events, some charming, some gruesome, all very exciting. FilmJuice highlights some of the best national seasons, screenings and previews over the coming months for your consideration.

Night of Thrones (Main Picture)

With the quality of TV giving film a thorough run for its money we saw no harm in including this one night homage to the winning Game of Thrones. Test your knowledge of this epic HBO series with a thoughtfully organised quiz night to tie in with the upcoming premiere of season four. Four rounds of trivia, music and nonsense are interspersed with screenings of the last two episodes on season 3, which includes the infamous Red Wedding.

The Picturehouse Podcast presents THE RAID 2

The lovely folk of the Picturehouse Podcast are celebrating their fourth birthday party with a special advanced screening of The Raid 2, the sequel to Gareth Evan’s bone crunchingly brilliant debut feature. Expect white knuckle action and generous amounts of pain on screen followed by boozey antics in the cinema’s upstairs venue until the wee hours. Studio Ghibli Season
When: April/May
Where: BFI Southbank

In the build up to Hayao Miyazaki’s final film, the BFI celebrate the life of one of Japan’s most successful animation studios with a season of their finest work. Tickets for April’s programme are now on sale, and with My Neighbour Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies and Kiki’s Delivery Service on the bill this is a cinematic experience not to be missed. Flatpack Film Festival
When: March 20th – 30th
Where: Birmingham

Known for taking films out of the cinema and into the city, Flatpack festival returns with a colourful programme of screenings, workshops and music. Highlights include a special showing of F.W. Murnau’s vampire film NOSFERATU<http://www.flatpackfestival.org.uk/event/nosferatu/> accompanied by a live score, a preview screening of Sini Anderson’s hotly anticipated The Punk Singer and a two hour marathon event centred around Cartoon Network’s wonderful Adventure Time, with dressing up strongly encouraged. ¡Viva! 20th Spanish and Latin American Film Festival

A milestone in new Spanish and Latin American film, the ¡Viva! Festival turns 20 this year, and celebrates with a programme of promising talent, Q&As and previews.
