Harrison Ford Returning For Blade Runner 2

“Like tears in the rain” it’s been vague as to whether or not Harrison Ford would be returning for a Blade Runner 2.  But while he said for a while he likes the script it was all kept fairly abstract until now because Deadline are reporting that Harrison Ford has indeed signed on to once again play Richard Deckard.

The other big news is that, with duty only producing this time round, Denis Villeneuve is in talks to direct the film.  Having given us the rain soaked and dark Prisoners, not to mention the eerie world of Enemy he certainly feels like a good fit for the job.  The script has been written by original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher with the help of Michael Green.

The plot is being kept under-wraps but it will acknowledge the passing of time, presumably to explain Mr. Ford’s obvious age difference between the last film and this one.  Whether or not it will shine any chiaroscuro lighting on the theory that Deckard is indeed a replicant is up for debate at this point.

The film isn’t set to start shooting until 2016 which means we won’t get to see “Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion” until 2017.  Before that Mr. Ford has the small matter of his other sic-fi franchise to contend with in the form of Star Wars.  Source – Deadline
