Having won his Oscar last year and then jetted off to space for Interstellar Matthew McConaughey continues to find interesting projects to star in and now comes the news he’s attached to star in Born To Run. Rather than being an adaptation of a Bruce Springsteen track this one will be based on Christopher Dougall’s best selling novel Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen (you can see why they shorten it).
The book follows Dougall, a journalist and runner who suffered from a string of injuries, who travelled to Mexico’s Copper Canyons in order to meet the Tarahumara Indian natives who throughout history have been able to run harder, faster and longer without running out of energy. Dougall wanted to look into the scientific reasons they were able to do this and in the process organised a race between the tribes people and some of the best long distant runners in North America.
But as if running wasn’t enough for McConaughey he’s also now attached to Gold, which while sounding like what he might winner for the race above is actually a separate film altogether. This one will tell the story of the 1993 Bre-X Corporation mining scandal which saw a prospector find a huge gold mine in the Indonesian jungle only for it to turn out to be a big old fraud. Patrick Massett and John Zinman have written the script and Traffic writer Steven Gagan is set to call the shots with production starting this June.
Before all that we’ll see McConaughey in Gus Van Sant’s The Sea Of Trees before he heads off to shoot Gary Ross’ The Free State Of Jones. Source – Deadline
