Brace yourselves because as far as remakes go this one might take a little stomaching. It’s one thing to try and remake a classic Hitchcock film, see Disturbia as a remake of Rear Window as an almost passable update on Hitch’s classic, but it’s another when you hear that Michael Bay is involved. It seems that the long gestating The Birds remake is well an truly a ‘go’ with news that Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will produce the movie. Now before anyone gets all up in arms about a Birds remake it’s worth noting that the original has not dated well thanks to the development of digital effects. So it might well be that a remake is not altogether a bad thing.
Okay, we tried, you probably didn’t go for it but hey, now we can safely let our eyes be pecked out without worry. Dutch director Diederik Van Rooijen will direct the film making his Hollywood debut. There is a silver lining to all this avian chaos and that is the rumour that Naomi Watts, a Hitchcockian blonde heroin if ever there was one, is in line to take on the iconic role that Tippi Hedren filled in the original film. So, what do you think? Is a Birds remake produced by the man behind Transformers what the world needs or do we need a dose of bird flu to kill this one dead? Source – Variety
