UPDATE! – Yes that’s right, sound the update klaxon because it turns out Neil Blomkamp’s vision of an Alien movie, which are as the below images show; tantalising, IS A GO!! Express elevator to Hell going DOWN! Because news is now coming through that Fox have now hired Blomkamp to make his Alien movie as his next project.  It will be separate from the Prometheus time-line, which of course takes place before the original Alien film and is currently gearing up for a sequel with Ridley Scott directing, but other than that all we really know is that it is likely to feature original Alien-buster Sigourney Weaver.  Suffice to say it could be a re-boot, it could be a sequel to Alien Resurrection, it could be an alternative time-line scenario – and judging from some of the images Blomkamp has conjured it could feasibly take place between Aliens and Alien 3.  Either way colour us extremely excited because Blomkamp is undoubtedly a hugely talented Sci-fi filmmaker and more importantly than anything a fan of the Alien franchise.  Source – Neil Blomkamp

A few weeks ago District 9 and Elysium director Neil Blomkamp released some concept art for his idea for a 5th Alien film.  While out promoting his latest film, robot movie Chappie, Blomkamp has hinted that Alien 5 might be more than just a pipe-dream.

The director has said he always wanted to direct an Alien movie but it wasn’t until working with original Alien star Sigourney Weaver on his latest film that he began to realise that he’d like to focus on her character Ripley as much as possible.  At first Blomkamp admits the concept art he came up with, some of which you can see below, was nothing more than him finding a creative outlet while in the edit for Chappie.  But he now says “There’s a high possibility, a high degree of chance that it happens that I go back and try to get Alien made.”  He goes on to state that he thinks Fox would jump at the chance to make the movie despite them focusing more and more on the Prometheus strand of the Alien saga, but it is he that is the problem.  It seems the Blomkamp does not want to end up in a David Fincher situation where-in he ends up directing an Alien film only for the studio to become heavily involved in his creative ideas.

Still the evidence seems to suggest that perhaps Blomkamp has been speaking to Fox about the possibility of making an Alien movie and by the sounds of it Weaver might well be interested.  The burning question is this; when would this potential Alien film be set?  The last we saw of Ripley she had died, was cloned and was about to crash into earth aboard a ship full of aliens and an android Winona Ryder.  But looking at the concept art it seems to suggest that the film would take place between events of James Cameron‘s Aliens and David Fincher’s Alien 3.  The inclusion of an acid burned Corporal Hicks, played by Michael Biehn, and a younger looking Ripley is evidence of this given both characters’ demise in Alien 3.

So what do you think? Do you want to see more Ripley based Alien movies?  There’s no doubt that Blomkamp’s imagery sparks the imagination as to what could be.  Source – Uproxx

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
