While X-Men fan favourite Gambit has been played before on the big screen, in the form of Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it seems that the character is far from dead and buried. X-Men producer Shuler Donner told Empire Magazine a while ago that she was “dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum” and that, unlike say the Wolverine films, a Gambit movie would not need to be a massive one. After all, Gambit, while a mutant, starts his life as a thief in New Orleans. Tatum meanwhile recently told MTV that he had held talks with Donner about the project and that Gambit was always his favourite X-Men, mainly because he is something of an anti-hero. Tatum went on to say; “He’s (Gambit) just kind of suave. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in X-Men.”
With X-Men Days Of Future Past due to hit cinemas later this year we won’t be seeing Tatum as Gambit any time soon. However, director Bryan Singer has teased the idea that we may see Gambit in Days Of Future Past sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, which is scheduled for a 2016 release. So, could Tatum will the trench coat of Gambit for Apocalypse?
Before all that Tatum will next be seen in 22 Jump Street and is currently working on the script for Magic Mike 2 which the star and co-writer says will be more of a road trip movie and should see all the original cast return. Source – MTV and Empire
