Ethan Hawke Recruited To The Magnificent Seven
Hot off the heels of his success in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood it seems Ethan Hawke has been recruited by his old Training Day muckers to join The Magnificent Seven remake. Denzel Washington, who won an Oscar for his role in Training Day, is already onboard with Training Day director Antoine Fuqua calling the shots.
The story, which is based on The Seven Samurai which was in turn made into the classic Western starring Steve McQueen et al, will see a small town built around a gold mine that an evil baron and his thugs want for themselves. When they kill a couple of the locals young a young widow, played by Hayley Bennett hires bounty hunter Washington to assemble a team of gunman to squash the evil baron’s plans.
The film has seen such writers as True Detective’s Nic Pizzolatto and The Blind Side’s John Lee Hancock both contribute. It also boasts man-of-the-moment Chris Pratt in what many are assuming is the McQueen role to Washington’s Yul Brynner role. Before that Hawke has a slew of projects upcoming including time travel thriller Predestination, drone pilot thriller Good Kill and another Western in the shape of Ti West’s In A Valley Of Violence.
