Gael Garcia Bernal, the actor last seen in Casa di me Padre and the Oscar nominated No, is set to star for Jon Stewart in Rosewater.  Stewart is taking time off from his usual gig of hosting The Daily Show to focus on his directorial debut based on the book by BBC reporter Maziar Bahari called Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival.  Stewart has also adapted the book to script which tells the true story of Bahari’s assignment to cover the Iranian presidential elections in 2009, a job that would take him away from his heavily pregnant wife but in theory only for a week.  However, while in Iran he was accused of being a spy, with footage of him appearing on Stewart’s The Daily Show used as evidence against him, and imprisoned and tortured for 118 days.  He knew nothing about the man who tortured him other than he smelled of Rosewater.  The Wrap is claiming that Bernal has been cast in the lead role. Before that we’ll see Bernal in Deserted Cities before he heads off to western The Ardor.  Source – The Wrap

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
