Denzel Washington, last seen in his Oscar nominated performance in Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, is in talks to star in the yet to be published book Shovel Ready.  Written by journalist Adam Sternbergh, Shovel Ready is set in a near future in which New York has been obliterated by a nuclear explosion.  In order to escape the depressing existence of the world around them residents escape reality by plugging into a digital fantasy world.  Washington will play a contract killer hired to take out the daughter of a high-powered maniacal evangelist but ends up becoming the girls protector rather than assassin.  As yet there is no director attached but if Washington signs you can imagine they’ll be a long list of candidates.  Washington will soon be seen opposite Mark Wahlberg in 2 Guns before re-teaming with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua for The Equalizer.  Source – Deadline

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
