Natalie Portman has been busy editing her directorial debut A Tale Of Love And Darkness so has been absent from screens since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World but there are now rumours that she’s being considered for a key role in the film based on Steve Jobs’ life. The film has gone through all manner of issues up to this point with first David Fincher dropping out of directing duties before studio Sony then put the film into turnaround. Now it’s back up and running with Danny Boyle set to direct and Universal coming to the financial rescue.
The script by The Social Network’s Oscar wining writing Aaron Sorkin is based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling authorised biography of Jobs and centres on three key moments in the technical wizard’s life; the launch of the first Mac, NeXT which was released after Jobs had left Apple and his triumphant return with the launch of the first iPod. At one point Christian Bale was set to play Jobs but he has since departed with Boyle now hoping Michael Fassbender will fill the turtleneck. Seth Rogen meanwhile is considering taking on the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. There’s no word on who Portman might be playing but Deadline report that it’s a key role for the Oscar winning actress of Black Swan to fill if she signs on.
Before all that we’ll see Portman star in another troubled production Jane Got A Gun as well as Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups and his other as-yet-unamed film.
