Marion Cotillard Replaces Portman As Lady Macbeth
Marion Cotillard, last seen legless in Rust & Bone and soon to be seen in partner Guillaume Canet’s Blood Ties, is set to replace Natalie Portman on the new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It seems that for the second time Michael Fassbender, who is set to star as Macbeth, and Portman have not managed to sync their online calendars with Portman, who was set to star opposite Fassbender in Jane Got A Gun and has now dropped out of Macbeth. While there is no reason given for the Black Swan star’s departure there’s no better way of getting over the loss of an Oscar winner than replacing them with another. Macbeth will be directed by Snowtown director Justin Kurzel and will use The Bard’s original language along with epic, bloody battles. Those familiar with Snowtown will know that Kurzel can certainly do gruesome which bodes well for the stabby nature of Macbeth. So who is a better fit for Lady Macbeth? Cotillard or Portman? Hardened killer whale trainer Vs. schizophrenic ballerina? Before that Cotillard will be seen opposite Joaquin Phoenix in James Gray’s The Immigrant. Source –
