Mark Wahlberg, recently seen opposite Denzel Washington in 2Guns and in Michael Bay’s Pain And Gain, is set to team with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt for a remake of 1974’s The Gambler.  The original film was directed by Karel Reisz and starred James Caan as an English professor with a vice for a flutter.  Borrowing money to feed his habit from his girlfriend, mother and then some untowards who are happy to resort to violence to get their money back, does little to deter his addiction.  The film has long been muted for a remake with the likes of Martin Scorsese, William Monahan, Leonardo DiCaprio and, perhaps most unusually, The Hangover’s Todd Phillips all linked at one point to bringing the story back to the big screen.  It now seems that Wahlberg and Wyatt will try to tackle the project.  Before Wahlberg rolls the dice on The Gambler he’ll next be seen in Transformers: Age Of Extinction while Wyatt is rumoured to be directing Star Trek 3.  Source – Variety

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
