While Matt Damon has been attached to The Martian for a while now it seems that he’ll be in good company with news that Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott has joined the project. Based on the e-book by Andy Weir, The Martian tells the story of an astronaut stranded on Mars after his crew evacuate the planet in a sand storm and presume he is dead. With NASA struggling to launch a rescue mission he must find a way off the planet before his supplies run out. The film is described as being Cast Away meets Apollo 13 which while sounding familiar to last year’s Gravity is said to be a different space adventure altogether. Drew Goddard, the man behind The Cabin In The Woods, was slated to direct but he has since departed to bring Spiderman spin-off The Sinister Six to life. He did however write the most recent draft of the film. What this does mean is that Ridley Scott has presumably put any plans for Prometheus 2 and Blade Runner 2 on hold until he has completed work on The Martian. Source – The Hollywood Reporter

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
