SPECTRE. For those in the know that title directly relates to the villainous organisation Bond fought in numerous Flemming novels as well as films such as Dr. No, Thunderball, From Russia With Love and others.
So what do we now know about the latest Bond movie? We know that Daniel Craig is returning as Bond, Sam Mendes, the director of the most successful Bond movie of all time Skyfall, is returning to direct and the film has the same writing team of John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. We’ll also see returning cast members such as Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomi Harris as Moneypenny, Rory Kinnear as Tanner as well as Ralph Fiennes, briefly seen at the end of Skyfall, replacing the now departed Judi Dench as M.
Perhaps more exciting than anything though was the announcement of the new additions to the cast. Fighting for the good guys we’ll see Sherlock villain Andrew Scott, could he be playing an MI5 mole? As well as Bond girl Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann. But it’s the villains that have peaked the interest. Guardians Of The Galaxy’s David Bautista will play a character called Mr. Hinx with Monica Bellucci presumably playing the femme fatale role of Lucia Sciarra. And finally Christoph Waltz the two time Oscar winning actor playing an unnamed villain. That being said rumours already abound that with SPECTRE, which stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Robotics and Extortion, being the title Waltz could well be playing Bond’s arch-nemsis Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Indeed former Bond actor Roger Moore tweeted soon after the announcement “Blofeld is back”, whether or not he is in the know remains a closely guarded secret.
So what do you think Bond fans? Is SPECTRE a title the excites? Is Waltz’s confirmed casting everything you ever dreamed of for a villain? Can it possibly live up to the high bench mark set by Skyfall? You’ll have to wait till
