Oscar Winners 2015

At one point during the fancy red carpet entry process before the Oscar Winners of 2015 (full list below) were announced a huge bird landed and posed for photographers.  It seems it was something of an omen (and no doubt a well crafted publicity stunt) as the big winner was indeed Birdman.  The film took home Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.  It didn’t do a clean sweep though with the acting gongs going to the other players in the field.  Eddie Redmayne took home Best Actor for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, Julianne Moore won her first and long overdue Oscar for Best Actress in Still Alice while the brilliant JK Simmons won for his blistering Supporting performance in Whiplash and Patricia Arquette took home Best Supporting Actress for her role in Boyhood.

Boyhood had been tipped to win big but went home relatively empty handed other than Arquette’s Oscar whilst Foxcatcher, nominated for five Oscars, took home nothing.  Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel took home such accolades as Best Production and Costume Design.  Baymax will be doing a little dance since Big Hero 6 won the Best Animated feature award but once again spare a thought for Roger Deakins, the cinematographer of Unbroken has now had 12 Oscar Nominations without a single win.  Thankfully between Redmayne and The Imitation Game winning Best Adapted Screenplay the Brits faired okay.
