Philip Seymour Hoffman, last seen in A Late Quartet, is in talks to join Child 44.  The film already boasts an impressive cast that includes Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman and will be directed by Safe House’s Daniel Espinosa.  Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, of which there are two sequel books, Child 44 will see Hardy as a disgraced Soviet military policeman who begins investigating a serial killer in the face of adversity with his superior’s refusing to believe such an individual could exist in their country.  Rapace will play Hardy’s suspected-spy wife with Kinnaman playing his ruthless former colleague and Oldman as his superior commander.  There’s no word on who Hoffman might play at this stage.  Ridley Scott is producing the film under his Scott Free Productions.  Before that Hoffman will next be seen in The Hunger Games; Catching Fire and then in Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man.  Source – Deadline

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
