While it may have been delayed it seems that Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Lies is now sailing at full speed as Disney announced a story AND a new cast member in the role of the big baddie.  The man donning an evil pirate hat will be none other than Javier Bardem who will play Captain Jack’s old nemesis (how many does he have exactly?) Captain Salazar.  Of course Bardem will know a little bit about the Pirates franchise given that his wife Penelope Cruz starred in the last film; On Stranger Tides.

Disney also announced plot details which read something like this (it helps it you picture sprawling oceans at this point):
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”

Sounds intriguing.  But then we’ve been here before and have been let down, especially with the last film, when it comes to Jack Sparrow’s mis-adventures.  The cast will see Johnny Depp return to his most famous role while The Maze Runner’s Kaya Scodelario will cozy up to Brenton Thwaites for the obligatory romantic couple.  Geoffrey Rush is also returning as Captain Barbossa. Jeff Nathan has written the script while Kon-Tiki directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning have already started filming in Australia with the aim of reaching their destination by 7th July 2017.  Source – The Wrap

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
