Calm yourselves. Okay don’t because the rumour coming out of Variety is that Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale could all be starring in a movie together. The film in question is The Big Short based on the non-fiction book by Michael Lewis which follows a group of key characters who helped create the credit crunch that would send the global economy into meltdown. Not surprisingly the book is subtitled The Doomsday Machine.
Adam McKay, best known for his comedy films such as Anchorman, has been developing this one for a while in the hope of trying his hand at something a little more dramatic. He wants to assemble a cast of big name actors, and it doesn’t get much bigger than those mentioned, in order to conjure a Traffic like story.
Lewis is no stranger to his books being adapted having seen his account of the Oakland A’s being turned into Moneyball. That worked out well for Pitt who is also looking to produce The Big Short through his Plan B Production company.
As yet there is no start date for the film but if Paramount can secure the services of all those big names it’s hard to believe this one will be delayed. Pitt will next be seen opposite his wife Angelina Jolie in her third directorial effort By The Sea, Bale has Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups later this year while Gosling has recently finished shooting in Shane Black’s noir thriller The Nice Guys opposite Russell Crowe.
