We’ve had The Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy and we’re getting a Justice League Of America so spare a thought for those poor lonely solo villains. Until now. Because the news from Variety is that DC’s Suicide Squad cast is now assembled. Heading the line-up is Will Smith as Deadshot, Oscar winner Jared Leto as The Joker, Tom Hardy as Suicide Squad leader Rick Flagg, The Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and model Cara Delevigne as The Enchantress. There is also talk that Jesse Eisenberg who will play Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman is in talks to reprise his role for The Suicide Squad while Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey are all being considered for the role of Dr. Amanda Waller.
Created back in 1959 The Suicide Squad has gone through various guises but the more modern take, realised in 1987, sees the group of incarcerated super villains, when not causing the likes of Batman and Superman all manner of problems, being used by the US government as deniable assets in black op missions.
Fury and End Of Watch Director David Ayer will direct the film for Warner Bros. with the release date set for 2016. It’s a tantalising line-up of actors and demonstrates that DC are more than willing to follow the Marvel routine of hiring big name actors to fill-out ensemble films. Source – Variety
