Having had enormous box office success with his live action version of Alice In Wonderland Disney are once again turning to Tim Burton this time to bring Dumbo to life. Disney have been on a drive to bring much of their animated back catalogue to live-action cinema with Burton’s Alice In Wonderland paving the way for the likes of Maleficent and the upcoming Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Dumbo, which was originally released back in 1941, tells the story of a baby circus elephant who is mocked because of his big ears. But, with the help of a plucky mouse at his side, he soon learns his ears are a blessing rather than a curse as he learns to fly.
The new version will be a combination of live-action mixed with CGI and will follow the same story but add a family plot that parallels Dumbo’s. Although it has to be said that we’re not sure we’ll see a boozing Dumbo in this one seeing all manner of pink elephants.
Burton is currently working on Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and is also set to produce Through The Looking Glass, the sequel to his Alice In Wonderland film which James Bobin is directing. Source – The Wall Street Journal
