Tom Hardy, currently giving a stellar performance in Locke, will team with The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow for the true story True American. Based on Anand Giridharadas’ non-fiction book Murder And Mercy In Texas it tells the story of Raisuddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladesh Air Force officer who longed to move to the United States in order to work in the technology world. When he arrived in the States he took a job at a minimart when, a few days after September 11 2001, he was shot by Mark Stroman, a self-proclaimed American Terrorist. Stroman was sentenced to the death penalty while Bhuiyan fought to overcome his wounds that nearly killed him. Once out of hospital Bhuiyan tracked down Stroman to offer him forgiveness all the while campaigning against the death penalty. Stroman in exchange strove to become a better man while in prison.
As yet there is no writer attached to the project meaning that Hardy’s otherwise full slate can presumably go ahead without interruption. That slate includes the likes of Child 44, Rocketman in which Hardy will play Elton John and Legend, in which Hardy will play The Kray brothers. Source – The Wrap
