Samuel LoveLoosely based on Virginia Woolf‘s 1928 novel Orlando: A Biography, Sally Potter’s dreamlike modern classic is one of the most unique literary adaptations and one of the best films of the 1990s. Starring Tilda Swinton in the titular role, the film’s influence is far-reaching – its Oscar-nominated costume design inspired the 2020 spring exhibition of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the 2020 Met Gala, while the film’s fourth wall-breaking style is seen as a key inspiration on Fleabag. Lavishly produced and impeccably performed, Orlando is a masterpiece of its genre that needs to be experienced – and Curzon’s new 4K UHD release is certainly the best way to do that. Another magnificent release from the studio who have been doing incredible work recently in home releases such as this, the 4K UHDs of Paris, Texas and Memories of Murder, and a slate of Lars Von Trier Blu-ray releases.
