Samuel LoveTi West’s modern horror classics Pearl and MaXXXine – parts two and three of the grisly X Trilogy – have received the Second Sight treatment in another pair of must-own Limited Edition releases. Celebrating the Technicolor madness of Pearl and the neon-soaked noir of MaXXXine in sparkling 4K UHD, these releases are impeccable, in true Second Sight fashion loaded with special features, art cards, and packed booklets. Whilst it’s frustrating that the trilogy-launching X is absent due to rights issues, it’s far better to just have these two in this format than none of them at all.
Pearl and MaXXXine are magnificent, brutal, fully realised love letters to films of the 1950s and 1980s respectively, and are catnip for film fans. Both should be considered integral parts of your horror collection.
Pearl
A troubled young woman pursues stardom in a desperate attempt to escape the boredom, loneliness, and lovelessness of life in her small town. As life on her parent’s farm grows more and more frustrating, her mask of sanity slowly starts to slip.
