Spotlight on Final Cut Entertainment

Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year is a home entertainment label you might not necessarily be familiar with by name, but take a glance at your DVDs and Blu-rays and I’m sure you’ll see them among the spines. Final Cut Entertainment, launched in 2003, are one of the many labels working hard to keep physical media alive with their excellent catalogue of releases, and today, we’re shining the spotlight on them and sharing in their anniversary celebrations!

We spoke to Final Cut’s director, Andrew McCreary. “Final Cut Entertainment was formed in 2003, enjoying early success with the release of The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree. With a background in theatrical, rental and sell-through, we are movie lovers at heart and enjoy mixing a passion with our work”.

But what kind of films are their passion? “We release titles from all genres”, McCreary says, “and we aim to bring some of the forgotten gems back, such as The Curse of the Werewolf, The Vampire Lovers, Drop Dead Fred, the Death Wish films, and Twin Town”. I call that making good on the promise of ‘titles from all genres’! Seductive vampires and doped-up Welshmen – doesn’t get much more different than that.

But the list doesn’t stop there – Final Cut Entertainment have also released such undisputed classics as Rolling Thunder, Play Misty for Me, and The Big Country among many, many others. Their passion is felt across every release, and has certainly hit new heights in their gorgeous recent release of Desperately Seeking Susan – the deluxe limited edition includes artcards, a poster, and a wonderful booklet alongside the cult classic flick on sparkling Blu-ray.

But what I love about Final Cut Entertainment is that they’re not afraid to also bring their love to films that are probably less deserving of it. Films like Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot and Joe Dante’s Piranha are hardly classics, but Final Cut treat them the same way they would a bonafide masterpiece – and that is something that separates them from the more pretentious labels. Final Cut’s passion is for film in all its forms, across the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Looking ahead, Final Cut shows no signs of slowing down. McCreary says, “2024 will see the releases of Lone Wolf McQuade, An American Werewolf in Paris, The Martian Chronicles, The General, Song for a Raggy Boy, and many more…”.

Here’s to the next 20 years of entertainment. Happy birthday, Final Cut Entertainment!
