The Blair Witch Project remains one of the most influential horror films of all time, but has never been correctly released on home video much to the chagrin of the filmmakers. This brand new reconstruction/restoration from the original Hi8 videotapes and 16mm film elements – supervised and approved by the producers and directors – is a historic release and should be celebrated, finally allowing audiences to see the film as it was originally intended alongside the original release version, the ‘Festival Cut’, and a wealth of special features.
I have always been enormously passionate about physical media, restoration, and preservation – this release is a masterclass in all three, and could genuinely be one of the most impressive home entertainment releases I’ve ever encountered. Second Sight just get better and better with every release, but it’s hard to see how they – or anyone – could top this. An absolutely magnificent piece of work from all involved. Truly special.
Synopsis
Three film students head into the woodlands of Maryland in search of the Blair Witch, a local legend that has haunted the town of Burkittsville for centuries, as part of a documentary project. They were never seen again. This footage is all that remains of that fateful excursion.
