The Misfits Unboxing

In Features by Samuel Love

In 1961, one film marked the end of two iconic Hollywood careers. John Huston’s all-star contemporary western The Misfits features the last performances of both Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, alongside Eli Wallach, Montgomery Clift, and Thelma Ritter. The film follows a divorcée (Monroe) who falls for an over-the-hill cowboy (Gable) who is struggling to maintain his romantically independent lifestyle. Although a commercial failure on release, the film received critical acclaim which has only increased over the years – it is now, quite rightly, considered one of the best films of the 1960s.

John Huston’s (“The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”) acclaimed masterpiece, featuring a star-studded cast of Hollywood icons Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift.

While filing for a divorce, beautiful ex-stripper Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe) ends up meeting aging cowboy-turned-gambler Gay Langland (Clark Gable) and former World War II aviator Guido Racanelli (Eli Wallach). The two men instantly become infatuated with Roslyn and, on a whim, the three decide to move into Guido’s half-finished desert home together. When grizzled ex-rodeo rider Perce Howland (Montgomery Clift) arrives, the unlikely foursome strike up a business capturing wild horses.

The Misfits is available now on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD Mediabook from Altitude Films
