Samuel LoveAcorn Media, purveyors of the best crime television, are at it again. Irish true-crime series The Vanishing Triangle is a dramatisation inspired by the 80-mile radius to the south of Dublin – the so-called “vanishing triangle” – where a number of young women disappeared in the 1990s. Most of these cases remain unsolved. This six-part series makes it clear with a disclaimer that this is merely inspired by the real case, but comes a little close to glamorising this disturbing unsolved mystery into cosy crime telly. But there’s still a lot to enjoy in this slick and engrossing whodunnit that will entertain fans of the subgenre.
Synopsis
Investigative journalist Lisa Wallace publishes an article about her mother’s murder, which sparks the disappearance of Amy Reynolds.
Lisa and Detective David Burkely work together to find Amy. Their investigation takes them around Ireland, as more girls go missing. They follow every lead, but some are dead ends. All the meanwhile, the killer plays psychological torture games with Lisa, putting her in compromising situations. As they get closer to finding the killer, David and Lisa learn more about the long rooted corruption in the Garda system. To cover their tracks, high-ranking garda members blackmail David with his own secrets. The investigative trail finally leads Lisa to the killer, where they face off again after all these years. She must confront her childhood trauma in order to save these missing girls.
