Samuel LoveThe Walking Dead franchise is certainly showing no signs of slowing down, and is even now growing considerably in its setting. The first season of fan-favourite Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) spin-off, for example, finds the gruff hero washing ashore in France (!) for a whole new adventure filled with the gnarly undead, and plenty of grisly gore. Dead City sees Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) forming an alliance in an anarchic Manhattan, while The Ones Who Live shows that no distance can stand in the way of love.
Fans of The Walking Dead will feast well on these spin-offs – each is packed with the usual zombie action and incredible effects, while the more focused storytelling allows for far greater character development for these heroes and villains we have come to love over the years. Each of these three shows should be considered essential viewing for all fans of the series, as it is some of the best Walking Dead content in years. All are available on Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray from Acorn Media.
Daryl Dixon: Series One
Following his departure from The Commonwealth, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) washes ashore in France, raising the ire of a splintered but growing autocratic regime centred in Paris and endangering a young boy at the heart of a benevolent religious movement. Daryl agrees to shepherd the child and his caretakers on their pilgrimage to The Nest, a sanctuary which promises safety, in return for the Union’s help securing him passage back to America.
Dead City: Series One
Much-anticipated “The Walking Dead” spin-off miniseries finds Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan returning to their respective iconic roles as Maggie Greene Rhee and Negan Smith, having to put their bitter enmity aside as they perilously venture into a walker-infested Manhattan in search of her kidnapped son Hershel (Logan Kim).
The Ones Who Live
Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead…and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other, and who they were, in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors?
