Unboxing The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman

When it comes to catalogue TV releases, there really is nobody better than Fabulous. With gorgeous Blu-ray boxsets of The A-Team, Miami Vice, Airwolf and many more under their belt, they are the reigning rulers of vintage television. Their two latest releases just add further jewels to that crown – The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman

These much-loved 70s classics saw our cyborg heroes become pop culture icons as they embarked on secret missions across many, many episodes and adventures – you’re looking at around 150 episodes altogether, plus 3 reunion films. Charming and bingeable, these shows hark back to a simpler time before so-called ‘prestige’ television made everything so dark and challenging. It’s good old-fashioned fun, and both series look and sound stellar on Blu-ray. Packed with new and archival bonus features, these sets are essential for collectors.

We took a closer look…

The Six Million Dollar Man: The Complete Series

Our review

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster. Steve Austin, an astronaut who crashed during an experimental aircraft test, is a man barely alive and clinging to life. At that point the government decided to use secret funding for a secret bionics project to create the next generation of covert operative–an agent with bionic limbs that give him superhuman strength and enable him to run speeds beyond 60 miles per hour, along with a bionic eye that allows him to see details over a mile away. Col Austin awakens after this almost fatal crash to find that he now processes integrated bionic technology. For his second chance at life he is coerced into taking on specialized missions for the OSO (Office of Strategic Operations).

The Bionic Woman: The Complete Series

Our review

When tennis pro Jaime Sommers (Emmy Award winner* Lindsay Wagner), is critically injured in a skydiving accident, she is “rebuilt” using the government’s top secret cybernetic replacement surgery known as “bionics”. As the world’s first bionic woman, Jaime is equipped with bionic legs capable of running over 60 miles-per-hour, a bionic arm that can lift an automobile, and a bionic ear that can detect the slightest of sounds. With her tennis career necessarily over, Jaime returns to her hometown of Ojai, California, to start life anew as a school teacher at a U.S. Air Force base. Between her classroom duties, Jaime moonlights as a secret agent for OSI Director Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), taking on highly-classified—and usually dangerous—missions, to satisfy a debt she feels is owed to the government for making her “whole” again.
