Samuel LoveLeigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man was one of the biggest surprises of 2020, updating the HG Wells classic and subverting expectations at each of the film’s grisly twists. Whannell’s follow-up, a fresh take on the Wolf Man, may not hit the same heights, but there’s certainly a lot to enjoy here. With a wonderfully disturbing creature design and gorgeously bleak visuals, this nightmarish tale is another reminder of Whannell’s expert eye for horror filmmaking. A wonderfully gory throwback chiller. Beware the moon!
Synopsis
From Blumhouse and the director of The Invisible Man comes a modern take on the classic Wolf Man story. Seeking a fresh start, Blake moves his wife Charlotte and daughter Ginger to his childhood home in rural Oregon. Upon arrival, they encounter a brutal animal attack, forcing the family to barricade themselves inside the house as an unseen creature prowls the perimeter. As the night wears on, Blake’s injuries worsen, and his bizarre behaviour turns monstrous. To protect her daughter, Charlotte must decide whether to confront the danger outside or the growing horror within.
