Growing in momentum
with every coming year, The Bradford International Film Festival returns for
its 19th edition with a whole host of screenings and events.
Opening this year’s programme is Michael Winterbottom’s The Look of Love, starring Steve Coogan as the real life king of
Soho Paul Raymond and his triumphs and troubles. Free drink and entertainment
will be available on arrival and screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh will be in attendance.
Special events
include Big Screen Gaming Fun in City Park, which is running throughout
the festival and allows visitors to use their whole bodies to control
characters in computer games on the Big Screen. Family fun continues with Saturday
Matinees on the Big Screen, with classic films like Back To The Future, Aladdin
and Toy Story, and Bradford After Dark III showcasing some of the most
bizarre and disturbing films around.
The film programme
spans all walks of cinema, with a special screening of John Schlesinger’s Billy
Liar with a special appearance from the film’s star Sir Tom Courtenay
for the film’s 50th Anniversary. Chris Marker’s Sans Soleil
has a female narrator reading letters telling of memories and observations,
sent to her from a friend in Japan, Guinea-Bissau, Iceland, Paris and San
Francisco, and Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist (Main picture) stars Kate Hudson
and Riz Ahmed at the height of a hostage crisis.
