Compliance

The reviews and audience reaction that met the release of COMPLIANCE is testament to the deeply provocative yet intensely gripping nature of Craig Zobel’s film – inspired by true events.

Described as ‘one of the most shocking films ever made’ COMPLIANCE recounts a chilling true story with startlingly authentic performances, making the unbelievable events unfolding onscreen difficult to watch but impossible to turn away from.

Highly-strung fast food manager Sandra receives a phone call from a police officer, informing her than an employee has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she’s only doing what’s right, she commences a search of her young employee Becky, following instructions from the officer at the other end of the phone line – no matter how invasive they become.

The story eerily mirrors the 1961 study psychologist Stanley Milgram devised, which tested how much pain an ordinary citizen would inflict on another person, simply because he was ordered by a scientist. Despite their reservations at inflicting so much pain, 100% of the subjects obeyed.
