with it a titillating look into upcoming cinema events as well as celebrating
the best of previous and present movie culture.

Now it’s Britain’s turn, with an annual autumn offering of
fanaticism in London ComicCon. Whether Daleks,
Darths or Digimon are the preferred centre of your adoration, the MCM expo
has something to satisfy everyone from the diehard fan to the mild
follower.

One of the main attractions are the guests, and this year
MCM have secured an airtight headliner with fans as Matt Smith (Main Picture), The Doctor, will be appearing on Friday the 26th.
Other early announcements include The
Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Demunn (Dale)
and Andrew Rothenburg (Jim) and
Once Upon a Time’s Keegan Connor Tracy (Mother
Superior)
and Tony
Amendola (
Marco/Geppetto.)

As always, the weekend is steeped in Japanese influence, mostly contained
in the JapanEX area. Anime and Manga are the main attractions for this slice of
the weekend, but you can also experience Japanese food and music, and with a
strong cosplay community returning for their annual instalment you can either
admire visitor’s costumes or get involved yourself.

The largest even for the British cosplay community, this year MCM Expo
will be holding a masquerade to show off the best in Japanese costume, as well
as a full area dedicated to gadgets, props and comics. The weekend also hosts the
Euro Cosplay Championships, which see contenders from 23 different countries
collide to prance and pose for the winning title.

On the trading side, buyers and sellers can attend to exchange
memorabilia, graphic novels and films. There’s also a wide range of mainstream
suppliers who will be setting up stands across the weekend.

Live events will be spread across the three days for the MCM Fringe
Festival. Most of these are photoshoots for those in attendance for the Cosplay
side of things, but there’s also a Doctor Who picnic, a Tonyo
Times meet and Vanguard
free play and trading session.

For avid gamers, there is a fully dedicated expo where
leading names will preview some of their most exciting works. Microsoft,
Nintendo and 2K will be among the contributors, with a full list of products
released closer to the time.

venue and planning your stay, visit the MCM Expo homepage HERE

Alex Moss Editor

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
