Made in Britain: Warp Films at 10

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the renowned British production company, the BFI Southbank is holding a month long season of the best in domestic cinema and music.

Celebrating the 10th
anniversary of the renowned British production company, the BFI Southbank is
holding a month long season of the best in domestic cinema and music.

Founded in Sheffield in 1989, Warp Records made an immediate
impact on British culture with its experimental electronic music. The label
balanced commercial success with a commitment to innovation, evolving into an
internationally renowned home for musicians who push boundaries. In 2001,
founding partners Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett, enlisting the help of
producer Mark Herbert, founded Warp
Films with the same principles.

Programme highlights include directorial debuts, including Richard Ayoade’s Submarine, Ben Wheatley’s
grizzly Kill List and Paddy Considine’s powerful Tyrannosaur.
Shane Meadow’s
portrayal of a
national divide in This Is Britain and last year’s critical success Berberian
Sound Studio
(Main Picture) also features in the season.

To celebrate the
company’s anniversary, Sheffield-based artist Pete McKee has reworked ten of their film’s posters to be displayed
at the BFI, and Warp will also be holding a production masterclass on the 27th
of April.

2012’s showcase of contemporary British cinema at the BFI
was a large success, with its focus largely falling on British female
directors. This year’s celebration
brings with it a surge of domestic creative talent and a new focus on the
changing face of British cinema.

tickets, visit the BFI homepage HERE

The Made in Britain: Warp Films at 10 season runs from
the 5th to the 27th of April.
