Dungeons & Dragons Returning To Big Screen

Dungeons & Dragons, the original role-playing board game created back in 1974, looks to be getting another big screen outing.  The game was famously turned into an animated TV show in 1983 before later being translated to the big screen, around the time the first Lord Of The Rings film was in the works, in 2000 starring Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch.  That film was a horrible mess but it isn’t stopping Warners from commissioning Wrath Of The Titans and Red Riding Hood writer David Leslie Johnson from penning a new script.  Leslie Johnson has already written a script based on Chainmail, another concept by Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax, and has been asked to adapt it to fit in with the bigger incarnation of the game.  Given the success of Game Of Thrones and of course the return of The Hobbit to screens it seems fantasy films are fast becoming flavour of the month again.  So what do you think?  Does Dungeons & Dragons have a place on the big screen or, like Battleship, should it remain in the cupboard with the rest of the board games?  Source – Deadline

Alex Moss Editor

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
