Samuel LoveNot many filmmakers peak with their low-budget debut, but looking back on the illustrious career(s) of the Coen Brothers, one could certainly make the case that Blood Simple is their masterpiece. A seedy, sleazy, twisty neo-noir, Blood Simple is a darkly compelling story of murder featuring a career-best performance from beloved character actor M. Emmet Walsh. In our review, we said “Blood Simple remains a film of sheer brilliance, a world of morally grey characters all out to serve themselves no matter the cost, it is as thrilling now as it was over 40 years ago”. Now available on 4K UHD for the first time, this is a must-own for neo-noir nuts.
Synopsis
A stylish, imaginative and hard-boiled neo-noir, Blood Simple announced Joel and Ethan Coen as vital and distinctive new cinematic voices on its release three decades ago. M. Emmet Walsh is a sleazy Texas private eye hired by bar owner Marty (Dan Hedaya) to kill his unfaithful wife (Frances McDormand) and her lover (John Getz). Given a plan to work from, he decides to modify it without warning; and matters quickly spiral out of control. In a new restoration approved by the Coen Brothers, Blood Simple is a masterclass in filmmaking.
