Ant-Man Eyes Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd

Ant-Man, the Marvel superhero who has been in development for sometime, is getting close to start shooting with The World’s End director Edgar Wright finally bringing Henry ‘Hank’ Pym to the big screen.  With a scheduled release date of July 2015 it’s time to start looking at casting and Variety are reporting that the front-runners to play Ant-Man are Looper’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Role Models’ star Paul Rudd.  Both have the quick smarts and cocky charm to do Pym justice and the rumour has it that barring a late entry to proceedings it’s a two horse race between the two actors.  There is something of an age difference between the two so if Marvel are looking at a multi-picture deal for Ant-Man Gordon-Levitt may just sneak it.

Ant-Man is scientist Hank Pym who is able, through technology he invented, to shrink himself down to the size of an ant or grow to the size of buildings, oh and he can control ants, because every superhero should be able to control billions of tiny army ants.  Originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Ant-Man, along with his girlfriend Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp, were founding members of Marvel’s Avengers and it was Pym who created Avengers’ upcoming villain Ultron.  As Pym doesn’t seem to be part of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron it is expected that back-story will be re-told as Tony Stark aka Iron Man being responsible for Ultron’s design.

Ant-Man has been co-written by Wright and Attack The Block’s Joe Cornish.  Gordon-Levitt will next be seen in his directorial debut Don Jon while Rudd The Came Together opposite Avengers star Cobie Smulders.  Source – Variety

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. It was perhaps ill-advised to witness this aged 6 but much like the beast within Hurt, he became infected by a parasite called ‘Movies’. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email: alex.moss@filmjuice.com
