It seems having one franchise on the go, 21 Jump Street, another in the pipeline, Gambit, isn’t enough as news comes that Channing Tatum could become a Ghostbuster. Because it seems Sony, presumably inspired by their recent universe expanding web-slinger Spider-Man, have an idea to take The Ghostbusters to spin-off franchise, world domination.
The first Ghostbusters re-boot / spin-off we all know about in the form of Paul Feig‘s all-girl-busters which will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Cecily Strong. But that won’t be the end of it as Sony have set up a production company called Ghostcorps which aims to pump out other movies, TV Shows and merchandise all relating to the business of busting ghosts. And it seems the Ghostcorps have already begun recruiting some big names which include Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce, Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s The Russo Brothers, the aforementioned Channing Tatum and original Ghostbuster creators Director Ivan Reitman and star and writer Dan Aykroyd.
Reitman has disclosed that there is already a plan for a sequel to Paul Feig’s Girl-Ghostbusters movie and the plan is to have The Russos direct from Pearce’s script with Tatum on board at the moment as a producer but with the hope of having him star in the film as well.
It all sounds like great news for Ghostbusters fans but at the same time much of all this could be pie-in-the-sky if there is no longer an appetite for Busting makes you feel good. Because with so much planned in the Ghostbusting world there is now enormous pressure on Feig’s film to be a huge success to justify the next phase. Mind you, Marvel seem to have done alright with their universe building world so who is to say The Ghostbusters can do the same? Source – Deadline
