Danny Boyle to Smash And Grab

Danny Boyle, who last gave us the mind-bending Trance, has lined up his next project in the form of an adaptation of documentary Smash And Grab: The Story Of The Pink Panthers.  The documentary tells the real life story of The Pink Panthers, the world’s most successful diamond thieves that includes interviews with members of the gang and a guide through the dark world of the diamond trade.  The true story certainly has the potential to be an Ocean’s Eleven style heist movie with a darker edge.  After the heist shenanigans of Trance it seems Boyle has caught the bug for those who steal.  He was recently considered to replace Steven Spielberg on American Sniper before Clint Eastwood stepped up to the scope.  It’s unclear where Smash And Grab will fit into Boyle’s schedule with rumours still rife that he’s set to shoot Porno, Irvine Welsh’s sequel to Boyle’s hit sophomore effort Trainspotting.  Source – Variety

Alex Moss Editor

Alex Moss’ obsession with film began the moment he witnessed the Alien burst forth from John Hurt’s stomach. Rarely away from his computer or a big screen, as he muses on Cinematic Deities, Alex is “more machine now than man. His mind is twisted and evil”. Email:
