“God will forgive them. He’ll forgive them and allow them into Heaven. I can’t live with that.”
One of the most unforgettable British thrillers of all time, Shane Meadows’ harrowing masterpiece Dead Man’s Shoes had long been rumoured to receive the Second Sight Films treatment. Here it is, at last – and it has been worth the wait. Although Second Sight were unable to secure strong enough elements to create a 4K UHD transfer, this Blu-ray release should be considered definitive. The film looks as good as it possibly can, while a generous horde of special features (new and archival) and a stuffed booklet of essays offer valuable insight into the film. Also included is a graphic novel of the film which is itself a remarkable standalone work. This is a truly breathtaking release of one of the best British thrillers – maybe even best British films outright – ever made.
