The international biggies may have come and gone but good old Great Britain has still got some pretty impressive festivals left to showcase upcoming, established and revisited talent.

The international
biggies may have come and gone but good old Great Britain has still got some
pretty impressive festivals left to showcase upcoming, established and
revisited talent.

After a bit of breather Raindance
is descending on the streets of London for two weeks of independent cinema,
screenings, workshops and parties. The organisation is taking submissions up
until the 24th of June if you’ve got short films, features or music
videos to show off. Now an Oscar qualifying festival for short films, having come
about in 1992 and has hosted premieres for Pulp
Fiction
, Memento (Main Picture) and The Blair Witch Project. You can find
out oodles about Raindance, how to submit your work and eventually the 2012
programme, HERE

Back for its 32nd edition, Cambridge Film Festival will be taking independent filmmaking away
from the capital and into the cinemas, parks and swimming pools of country.
This year’s programme has yet to be announced but with 2011’s showcase
comprising of Drive, Kosmos, Tyrannosaur and Bombay Beach
expect only greatness. Established in 1977, the organisers aim to bring as much
attention to independent films as possible in light of the US led industry.

We’ve taken a sneaky look into Animated Encounters festival in Bristol this year, but the full festival,
aptly named Bristol Encounters, will
be setting the bar for west county film events this September. Another one keen
to get your work into the movie theatres, the closing date for submissions has
come and gone but with this being it’s 18th soirée it’ll be back
next year boasting some of the best in domestic and international filmmaking.
Mini festivals are spilling out of the Encounters name, with the before
mentioned Animated Encounters, Brief
Encounters
, a competition that celebrates short filmmaking, Future Encounters, a showcase of 10
international film-makers, and Fresh
Flix
, providing a platform for young filmmakers. When the full programme is
up, you’ll find it HERE

Shuffling up north and into the wintertime, find shelter at
the Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
Another one to stick it to the blockbuster vehicle, Aesthetica is all for the
unsung cinema, taking dramas, docs, animation and music to 15 different
locations across the city, including medieval halls and old city walls. If you
want to buy tickets or enter the competition, head to the festival homepage HERE

Fans of the great outdoors will thoroughly enjoy The Adventure Travel Film Festival, a
weekend long event that plays in the UK, US and Australia and brings together
adventure films across all eras and countries for you active types to consider.
As well as cinema, a number of explorers will be telling tales of their
experiences, there’ll be a cookout, bushcraft skills and a good ‘ol fashioned
hoe-down. On the programme this year is Benjamin Jordan’s Above and Beyond Dream, documenting his power paraglide across
Canada, long term hitch hiker Austin Vince’s Roadside USA and Afghanistan motorbike journey flick Wakhan. The festival is held in lovely
Dorset and will run from the 17th to the 20th of August.
