Hollywood Comes To The Fair

This year, Battersea’s Spring Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair gets a dash of Hollywood glamour with the arrival of a new exhibitor, Stephanie Connell, who specialises in Golden Age Hollywood ephemera and 20th Century pop Culture. A highlight includes the highwayman’s hat worn by Margaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady, one of the 1940’s most famous films.

A further 150 stands offer a variety of antiques and collectables to suit all tastes, from nautical art and objects (Wallrock Anderson of Lymington, Hants), ancient classical artefacts and jewellery (Chris Martin Ancient Art), Anglo-Indian and Ottoman design and art (Clive Rogers), sculpture and art glass (Hickmet Fine Arts), textiles (Esther Fitzgerald), and chandeliers and lighting (Matthew Upham of the Kings Road).

This year’s Fair takes a royal theme, coinciding with the 90th birthday of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on 21st April.  Exhibitors are bring encouraged to include relevant items in their display, like Kate Thurlow’s magnificent 18th Century Italian gilded iron and giltwood corona which hangs a whopping 122 cms high and 84cms across. Anderson Wallrock will bring a clock commissioned from Asprey by Albert Edward Prince of Wales in 1893 to commemorate the occasion his royal yacht was royally beaten in the Americas Cup.

The Spring Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair takes place on 19th-24th April at Battersea Park, London SW11.
